Earlier this year, Saudi-born Ferial Masry won the Democratic primary for the 37th District of the California Assembly in Ventura County—as a write-in candidate. Although she will probably lose in a Republican-safe district, her candidacy has sparked considerable interest. Masry is the first Saudi woman to run for office in or outside of Saudi Arabia. Reporter Stephanie O’Neill caught up with her on the campaign trail.
