School Wrangling with Sandra Tsing Loh

Humorist Sandra Tsing Loh’s daughter turns five in September. Like every parent, Sandra knows she has a budding genius on her hands. Only the best possible kindergarten will do. But where?

Sandra comments on the path of every anxious parent as she surveys the bewildering spectrum of choices, from her local public school, with a less-than-thrilling API, to the ivy-clad private schools that can cost upwards of $19,000 per year.

Also covered are tips on how to recover from a magnet school application workshop (go to bed with an ice-pack) and how to coach your child to shine at the Gesell Test (name them Zoe or Sue to maximize their chances of spelling it).

Committed to trying to use the public school system Sandra now believes her local choice may not be so bad after all.
