His critics have called him everything from inexperienced to being a shill for organized labor. Though small in stature, he’s a big target for talk radio, especially given his pro-immigrant policies.

In this fascinating profile we get a rare personal glimpse of the second youngest speaker ever in the state Assembly, Fabian Núñez.

One of twelve children, Núñez grew up in a low income San Diego neighborhood. His father was a gardener and his mother a maid — both immigrants from Mexico. Once an amateur boxer, the 37 year-old Núñez is now the majority whip, the powerful Speaker of the California Assembly.
