Built in 1963, the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway ascends 2.5 miles from the floor of the Coachella Valley to the peak of Mt. San Jacinto in less than 10 minutes. More than 12 million people have travelled by tramway to the top of the mountain which is covered with snow in the winter months. The Palm Springs Tramway is one of three rotating trams in the world. The other two go to the top of Table Mountain in Capetown, South Africa, and to the peak of Mount Titlus in Switzerland.
