One Response to “Commentary: The Predator Next Door”

  1. Niki Delson, LCSW says:

It is important for people to know that the words “pedophile” , “sexual Predator” and sex offender are being spoken as if they are interchangeable. Even your commentators get the terms mixed up. They are different.

A Pedophile is a person who is has sexual interest in pre-pubescent children. Therefore a man who is interested in a teenager is not, by definition a pedophile.

A sexual predator is a person who sexually assualts someone who is a stranger (defined as known less than 24 hours)

A sexual offender is anyone who has violated the large numbers of sexual crimes that are defined in the penal code. That would include rape, child molestation, sodomy, oral sex with a minor, indescent exposure, voyeruism, sexual battery etc.
