Students at Balboa High School talk about the popular new “Grab ‘N Go” breakfast program. It’s a different menu every day, and on the day we shot, it was bagels, cream cheese, banana, milk or juice.
What is innovative is that the students can eat in class for the first ten minutes, as long as they properly discard the bags in a garbage can.
The program is important because teenagers are notorious for rolling out of bed at the last minute and rushing to school without eating anything. An hour later, they’re in class - stomachs rumbling - and can’t concentrate. The principal says the idea has also cut down on tardiness because kids don’t stop at fast food places on their way to school.
