A week before the election, polls and conventional wisdom have Democrat Phil Angelides trailing Arnold Schwarzenegger in the race for governor. Angelides has faced a number of challenges, including lukewarm support from his own party. He has also been out-shined by Schwarzenegger whose international star power and recent move to the middle has broadened his appeal with liberal Californians.
